A New Year

It is that time again. 2006 is now 2007! This year is going to be great. I should graduate with a masters degree and turn 26 yrs old! Yipes! Now that is OLD! I'll have to start a full-time job again. I feel like I have a better idea of what I want this time, so I am looking forward to a new challenge :) BRING IT ON 2007 :) It's going to be fun :)

stolen lunch

Today was a day that started with the Savannah smell. I nearly gagged leaving my apartment. When I got to work, it smelled like cookies which was much better than the Savannah stink, but still pretty gross. The cookie smell is getting too overwhelming. I guess that is why you can only eat so many of them. Maybe that is also why someone stole my lunch from the fridge at work! I can't figure that out. Who would eat already mixed tuna fish? I even had salsa mixed in with it! Anyway the day dragged...and dragged... and I kept sitting there thinking about this freelance job I should be working on. When work ended I was one of those cars that waited in the line to find a parking spot at the post office. I got in and waited until someone finally helped me mail my cards to England, Australia, and Germany. I also mailed my friend Nat a package. When I got home my key got stuck in my door. It took me 10 minutes to get it out! How nuts. Someone was in my apartment today, a pest thing was in my door. I didn't know about that and my camera stuff was out! Anyway..I made dinner, and then Florian sent me a message to come talk to him on the web chat. His school is sending him to Russia! How cool :) So a postcard from Russia... He's such a world traveler. I am missing the Bubblegum :) That was too fun! RIT's article on me has brought a few old friends calling.. interesting... ok I need to go sleep on my pink pillows :)

I really want to go home. I haven't been home since the end of August. I miss Maryland, my Maryland.

Today I worked on a book for Dorcus. I have about 40 pages finished, and am at the point where I need to use photos from their other photographer. His photos are terrible. Blur! Blur! Not up to my standards. Oh well.

My friends came and went. I miss them, but will see them again soon. It was really nice to have some guests. The Savannah smell was here when they were here, and that was a downer. I can't wait to smell the clean air of Maryland again. One more week!

Bra Size

I have many different roles at my cookie job. Yesterday I was playing the role of a customer service rep. I had to answer the phones to take cookie orders. So, this woman calls in and after she gives me her address, she decides to tell me her bra size.

Too much

I have too much I want to do, so maybe I should make a list.

Christmas cards- I need to go to the beach to get more shells for the cards, paint the rest of them, and then make the shell ornaments.

Oatmeal Cookies

I tried the Oatmeal cookies today. They were pretty good.

New Batteries

Do you ever have one of those days where everything needs new batteries? I woke up with a slight sore throat. After digging around under my bathroom sink I found the last of the Zicam. My wireless keyboard died while I was trying to put up an Away Message. It didn't even warn me that it was going to die! (Usually it does.)

After work, I made my way to a CVS to get batteries and more Zicam. The man at the CVS check-out was so weird. One of his hands had fingernails that were about one inch long. He asked me rudely if I was Spanish. It offends me when people automatically think I am a Latina, and this time I actually told this man that his rude comments were offensive. I think he was rather taken back by my smart-ass remark, so he asked, "What are you then?" I explained to him that I am a mix of Indian, and Czech. He said, "Czech, what's that? I never heard of it." His ignorance was killing me, and after a few seconds I gave up with Czech and said Europe. The old man behind me shook his head. All I wanted was some batteries for my keyboard and some zinc for my body.

When I got home I checked my mail and finally got the new registration sticker for my car. I spent maybe 15 minutes going through some boxes trying to find a flat-head screw driver. This is when I start wishing I had a male friend of some sorts who actually owned tools. Improvisation is something I learned a long time ago, so improv it was. I used a quarter, and when I dropped the quarter a nickel to unscrew the Hinder plate so I could add on my sticker. Yay me.. still wish I knew or had a man with tools around, but I am ok alone.

Anyway, I have been doing this bun and thigh work-out. It is so hard! Maybe a jolt of battery juice would make it easier. {At least now my keyboard is working :)} How many of you can lay on your side with your legs together and actually lift them in the air? It is so HARD! I'm determined to get it since I don't have much else to do... but boy does it make me sore! I need to get into better shape. I wonder how safe it is to run at night in Savannah. I felt safer in DC.

Onwards and upwards I always say! Hopefully the battery juice will leak into my veins and give me the power of an elephant :)

My new JOb

I started working again today at the Byrd Cookie Company here in Savannah, GA. I was given the task of designing a calendar, but got called in to help the shipping department. I spent the entire day laminating cards and cutting them up. I was so busy that I didn't even get to eat lunch.. probably my fault, but no one really suggested I could take a break. It's all something new and something to adjust to again. The people that work there seem very neat though, so I am glad of that.

In other news.. my mom made it home from the hospital.

The Dead 2200 Comes Back to Life

When I moved to Savannah, I was smart enough to put my Epson 2200 on a shelf in my closet. The shelf in my closet was not supposed to be a shelf in my closet.
It fell, my 2200 fell, and things seemed broken.

Well, since my Epson's funeral, I decided I had mourned too long. I started working my magical fix-it hands, and somehow I was able to push some metal parts back in place. The dreaded screeching sound stopped and the print head was able to move smoothly. I didn't think it was fixed though, so I kept working with it.. and tonight! TONIGHT! The Epson 2200 was reborn!

Or so I think it was...

Thanksgiving in the South

This is my first Thanksgiving away from my family. In an effort to keep up with the fattening tradition of Thanksgiving, I decided to do some cooking. I had to attempt the crazniess of the grocery store today. I was trying to find a small piece of turkey, perhaps turkey slices or something like that but I think Publix was sold out. Instead, I discovered that people in GA eat rabbit for Thanksgiving. Rabbit is even placed right next to the turkey!

Well, I made three batches of Czech dumplings. I put two and a half batches in my freezer, and I think I will leave the rest for the fridge. I was invited to have dinner with someone I know here in Savannah. I'm still undecided about going. I am enjoying all this free, alone time. I have plans!

Plans! I have a book to read, The DAM (Digital Asset Mgmt) Book, a book to design (freelance work), and some exploring to do..all before the job starts.

OK.. that's all folks! Ha! Have a good Turkey Day!

Freedom is not Free

It rained all day, and it is still raining if not sleeting. I finished my first quarter here at SCAD. I remember when I finished my first quarter at RIT. I was exhausted. I came home and slept, but this time.. well I didn't even take a nap (that should say something about how I feel). Looking back on it all, I learned that I am smarter than I think I am. That is all I will say since people do read this.

Knitting was good tonight. I started a new project, a scarf.

Some people in GA saw snow today. Thank goodness for the 70 degree weather coming this weekend... I'm hoping to go island hopping.

Well, one would think Savannah is a safe place, but it isn't.

This email was sent out last night:
On Nov. 17, 2006, two Savannah College of Art and Design students notified the college security office that they were robbed at gunpoint in their room at Dyson House residence hall, 121 W. Boundary St. The suspects, described as two adult black males, were seen leaving the scene in an older model red BMW. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident.

The students suffered no physical injuries and are being offered counseling.

I got a JOB

I went to apply for a seasonal job today at the Byrd Cookie Company. After a brief interview I was about to leave and the HR woman came to get me. She said wait a min...we have another option for you. So.. I'm going to be doing graphic design :) The place is really cool. I'm anxious to start. Adobe Project Lightroom

Jeff's Story

This is my friend Jeff's story from tonight:
"Im at the holiday inn in atlanta and this guy starts screaming 5 doors down from me and throwing shit in hsi room around and runs around the hall all bloody....somoene calls the police at there gets to be about 10 officers there trying to talk him down from killing himslef...he broke everyhitng in the room and used it to barricade the door...and he kept yelling "jesus help me the police are going to kill me" so after 6 hours of negotiating with him SWAT comes out in full gear...they then need to get a judge to sign a warrent and by 6:30am the whole thing is over and the break the door down and take him away."
